Thank you for Sharing the Journey in Shrewsbury Diocese!

A big thank you to so many of our wonderful campaigners for taking action on the refugee crisis and showing support for people forced to flee their homes. We have had plenty of wonderful Share the Journey events across the diocese and there is still time to add to the total!

CAFOD supporters have now walked over 100,000 miles and are travelling around the world for an amazing FIFTH time in solidarity with refugees. You can track our progress here and follow our journey as we petition Theresa May to stand up for human dignity and urge her to ensure that the UK takes a lead during UN refugee negotiations.

Here is a round-up of some of the events that have happened across the diocese…

Parishioners at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Ellesmere Port, braved rain and bad weather in June to walk through Rivacre Valley country park. 15 people and a dog walked four miles each, contributing a total of 60 miles to the CAFOD total. They started and ended their walk with prayers from the campaign cards, as a reminder of why they were walking.

St John the Evangelist, Bridgnorth, Shared the Journey during May, with 35 parishioners walking a total of 56 miles. The walkers were started off with a prayer read by Fr Iain, with three walkers even managing to participate on crutches! They had wonderful weather and groups stopped at appropriate points to read the stories from the campaign cards, an excellent way to show solidarity with refugees.

In Madeley, 55 parishioners and friends of the Good Shepherd Parish assembled in St Mary’s Church for a short service before setting off on their walk. They rested and enjoyed a picnic in the village hall, before walking back to church. They added a brilliant 352 miles to the CAFOD total.

St Joseph’s and Holy Family, Sale, held their walk in July. 30 parishioners walked between the two churches, followed by tea, cake and activities at the end. There was a treasure hunt for children, as well as a quiz, the answers to which were given as part of the parish’s Share the Journey display!

Parishioners from Christ Church in Heald Green added their support to the campaign, walking 25 miles during the Refugee Week of Action, whilst parishioners from Holy Apostles and Martyrs in Wallasey have continued with their series of group and individual walks, with the total now standing at an amazing 611 miles!

Thank you for all you have done! If you haven’t yet got involved with our campaign, visit our website to see how you can still organise a walk in your local parish or community.
