Saturday 13th September dawned sunny and dry. For the previous two years the day was held in May and was a sponsored event. This year it was moved to September, became a Peace Day and weren’t we lucky with the weather. The day started with a warm welcome from the Poor Clare Sisters at Ellesmere.
Fr Hartley celebrated Mass and during his homily based on words of Pope Francis spoke about the need for dialogue in working for peace. We all sang heartily in the beautifully decorated church. A wedding was taking place later in the day.
Mass was followed by an input from Sue CAFOD Shrewsbury’s Manager, which updated everyone about the new Campaign “One Climate One World”, Prayer and introduced some of the activities for the afternoon. We watched the Climate Coalition Film. The group then enjoyed their lunch, made crosses, selected resources and thought about “For the love of…….”
We then began our peace walk with a reflection and began to walk to the lake stopping to pray and remember the people of South Sudan, Gaza, Syria and Sierra Leone.
Everyone then had time to walk along the lake shore in the beautiful sunshine- a really peaceful time.
The day ended with a strawberry tea and singing Happy Birthday to Sue!! The feedback has been great. Everyone seemed to appreciate the time to pray for peace, so needed at the present time, catch up and engage in some creative activities.
Thank you one and all.
