Olympic Torch Walks for CAFOD

The Wirral Coastal Walk is organised by the Rotary Club of North Wirral. Sunday 27th May 2012 marks CAFOD’s tenth anniversary of CAFOD’s participation.Encouraged and organized by Finbarr Stewart, over the ten years walkers have raised £119,000. Individuals and parish groups say how much they enjoy taking part and look forward to this annual challenge.

This year among the walkers was Val Lees from St. Peter’s Birkenhead. Dressed as an Olympic Torch she planned to walk the 15 miles as she had done on many previous occasions.

She certainly is an inspiration. What lit her flame and kept her going was the knowledge that many women and children in the global south walk as far as 15 miles to collect water for their families
